With coronavirus quarantines in effect across the country, more of us than ever before are taking on the challenges of home-schooling and finding engaging and educational activities for kids. Busch Gardens and SeaWorld Parks are doing their part to help. The parks have developed standards-aligned resources to help families virtually explore the worlds of nature and animals.
You can learn about Busch Gardens’ menagerie of birds in the aviary as well as the Clydesdales, border collies, Scottish highland cows and gray wolves. While you’re online, check out the new roller coaster coming to Busch Gardens in 2020. Roller coaster design and engineering is a great way to teach speed, angles, height and other math-related topics.
Designed for grades K-12, the animal activities and resources are colorful, fun and engaging. Parents, students and teachers can utilize creative sources that include Classroom Activities, Teacher’s Guides, Saving a Species Video Series, Animal Bytes and Animal InfoBooks.
- Animal Bytes is a one-page fact sheet on interesting animals such as mammals, mollusks, cnidarians, arthropods, amphibians, bony fish and cartilaginous fish.
- Animal InfoBooks provides a variety of information such as how to set up an aquarium, environmental issues and the behavior, diet and conservation of baleen whales.
- Ecosystem InfoBooks takes you into the environments of Grass Lands, Tropical Forests and Tide Pools.
- Animal Sounds gives you a sound clip of animals like African lions, Asian elephants and beluga whales.
- The Saving a Species Video Series has informative videos on saving penguins, sea turtles and other animals as well as a Saving the Ocean series on topics such as Sustainable Seafood and Oil Spills. There’s also a Teacher Toolbox of resources for activities and discussion questions.
