I don’t often delve into Disney happenings in my columns. Mainly because there are already so many great sites devoted to the Disney parks (I’ve listed some of them at the end of this article). Every once in a while, I might give my opinions on a cool product or one of the resorts … or a restaurant … or something outside of the parks, such as Aulani and Castaway Cay … or some other beachy and island-inspired aspect of the Disney company. Okay, maybe I do dive into Disney a lot. Anyway …
I felt the need to share this particular news because, well, I obviously have a very definite “Disney Side.” Also, I adore the commercials for this ad campaign.
As part of its new promotional campaign called Show Your Disney Side, Disney Parks has given its fans a whole new way to celebrate their Disney Side. The company has launched an official Disney Parks Vine account that will feature both original and user-generated video content.
In celebration of the launch of this new Vine account, Disney Parks is holding a “Vine Your Disney Side” social media contest. The contest encourages Vine videographers to create six-second films that show their unique interest in Disney theme parks, characters and more. Vine users who create videos should include the hashtag #DisneySideContest for a chance to appear on the Disney Parks’ Vine account.
Selected videos will begin appearing on Vine on October 7. Each filmmaker selected will receive $1,000. Each creator will also receive the chance to win a vacation to Disneyland Resort or the Walt Disney World Resort and a $10,000 commission to create a series of Disney Side videos.
From the press release, Christie Volastro, vice president of Global Digital Marketing for Disney Destinations, said …
“We’re excited to announce our presence on Vine and believe this channel is a great fit considering the fun spirit of our parks and resorts, which serve as amazing locations for visual storytelling. We’re looking forward to using this channel to showcase original Vine content and recognize Disney fans by sharing some of the most creative Disney Parks inspired user-generated content out there.”
The Vine Your Disney Side contest runs through October 30, 2013. To see a complete list of rules and regulations for ‘Vine Your Disney Side,’ please visit DisneySideContest.com.

The Vine Your Disney Side is part of Disney’s new promotional campaign called Show Your Disney Side. Fans are asked to share their own Disney sides on Instagram, Twitter, Vine, Google Plus, FaceBook and Vine. Use the hashtag #DisneySide. Disney’s social media channels reach a combined total audience of 40 million Disney fans, so keep it on the family-friendly side.
“As a mother of three young girls, I tap into my Disney Side quite frequently – my daughters never let me forget that there is an inner princess to be celebrated every day,” said Jennifer Prince, director, Media and Entertainment at Twitter. “We are thrilled to partner with Disney in bringing that ‘Disney Side’ to life through the tight-knit, highly creative Vine community.”
Want to hear all about my “Disney Side?” You know you do …
- There is a spa in my neighborhood called Escape Massage. Do you think I pronounce it Es-cay-pe? Of course not. It’s always Es-cah-pay.
- I see Hidden Mickeys everywhere.
- I drive a Ford Es-cah-pay.
- My brother named one of his twin boys Lucas because he wanted to be able to say “Luke, I am your father.” Personally, I wanted him to name the other twin “Bo.” Oh, wait, that would be my Duke side, not my Disney side. Never mind. I think you get the idea, though.
Whether it’s music, movies, characters or catchphrases, there’s a little bit of Disney in all of us, whether we realize it or not. I know I have enough for a small fairy tale village. What about you? What’s on your Disney side?

This sounds like a fun contest. I think my sister would enjoy this.
